Jimmy Fortune Induction into Virginia Music Hall of Fame

Jimmy Fortune Induction into Virginia Music Hall of Fame – Legendary county musician Jimmy Fortune is set to receive a new honor this spring. Fortune’s list of previous accolades includes inductions into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, in recognition of his long career with The Statler Brothers. On Saturday, March 24, 2018, Jimmy Fortune will be inducted into the Virginia Music Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place at Nelson County High School and coincides with the benefit concert to raise money for the school’s band program. The Lovingston, VA high school is also Fortune’s alma mater. In conjunction with Fortune’s induction into the Virginia Music Hall of Fame, the musician will also display career memorabilia at the Virginia Musical Museum. Founded by Virginia Music Hall of Fame administrators Buddy and Peggy Parker, the Williamsburg museum exhibits a large collection of career pieces, costumes and personal items from notable musical artists who originated from Virginia. Fortune’s introduction to the Parkers occurred following a radio interview with Williamsburg’s WMBG Radio, hosted by Robert Hodge. Jimmy was born in Williamsburg, VA and moved to Nelson County as an infant. Jimmy Fortune will appear at Nelson County High School on March 24, 2018 at 7 p.m.

    Hi Jimmy and Nina,

My husband and I attended the concert tonight in Lebanon – It was very nice to meet you both, and we enjoyed the concert VERY MUCH – Thank you for being there for us to enjoy your wonderful voice. Every song was very good. I saw you many years ago in Binghamton, NY with the Statler Bros, and it was so nice to meet you after the concert. Thank you for taking time afterward to meet us and sign my paper and CD. I look forward to being at more of your concerts – I signed up with Tim for December 2019 concert!! I will still keep watching the you tube postings of you – Particulary enjoy you singing “My Only Love” that is PHENOMENAL !!- you are the Best singer of that song, for sure!! Also enjoy Great Pretender and Elizabeth. Thanks again for singing for us to enjoy. Alicia and Al Williams (we were 2nd in line tonight after the concert). 🙂 <3

Hi Jimmy this is Shirley from the FOE Grand Convention in Dallas, TX. I was the one in the hotel foyer who practically mugged you and asked for a picture. I have followed the Statlers since ’82’ and was ecstatic that I finally got to meet one up close and personal! What a well deserved honor for you and I know your brothers are just as proud. I will look into cruising with you in January!

    Hi Jimmy and Ms. Nina,
Congratulations on the Music Hall of Fame Induction in your home state that must have been incredible! I plan on being at the concert in Weirsdale, FL on December 22. I met Jimmy once with the Statlers in Salina, KS in 1998 and again (and Ms. Nina) in Palatka, FL 3 years ago. I didn’t know of what other way to contact you to ask a question. I know the Statlers prayed before every show and I thought maybe that you still do. I would consider it an honor to pray with y’all in Weirsdale before the show. I understand if you have someone else or for security reasons you can’t. I have been a Baptist minister for 28 years and I’ve pastored Bay Lake Baptist Church in Groveland, FL for the last 19. My wife Marcia will be with me. You’ve been blessing to me for 35 years and I would love the opportunity to be a blessing to you.
    God bless,
    Darrell Sheeley

    Hi Jimmy and Nina

Hope you all are doing well. The glass cases for the guitar, suit and boots will be finished next week. The rest of the displays are ready to install. I know you are busy, but have you had time to get some pictures together for the museum? I’m hoping to have your display completed by the end of August. If possible please make a note about each picture date, name, history, etc. Thank you again for all your help with this. Let us know when you are coming back to Williamsburg we want to see if you would like to make any changes to the display.

I absolutely love to listen to Jimmy Fortune sing Gospel songs. His voice, his renditions are inspiring to me. When I find tough times I replay what I taped when he appeared on Bill Gaither’s show. Listening to him talk and his songs are what I listen too on nights I’m sitting alone and need inspiration. Of course I like Bill Gaither or possibly wouldn’t have seen this particular show. I really love Bill’s song, ‘Because He Lives!’
Thank you and ‘May God Bless’ Jimmy in all his endeavors!!!
