I am so happy for Daniel!  It is like one of my own children had achieved all that he has.  I can picture him at camp, sitting by the fire ring.  Our boys have been off to Scout camp so many times and they would relate to this experience.  One of them worked at Scout camps for several summers.  Daniel will get so much out of this.

I can just imagine the stories Daniel will have to tell.  You'll have to share them with us.

Talked to Daniel twice today. They had a campfire tonight. He said it rained some earlier in the day, so things were damp and the fire felt good. So far, so good, he's having fun.

I am so glad that he is able to call you.  It will help both of you to get through the summer!  It does sound like he is having a wonderful time.

This week the counselors are working on things around the camp--repairs and getting prepared for the kids to arrive. I think it is this weekend. Daniel loves working with the young people and is looking forward to that. The new cell phone helps him so much--so glad he has it.

Here's an update. Daniel had young grade school kids this week. They kept him busy! He likes them and said they like him, but you can imagine a bunch of kids that age....  He had some moments that were, shall we say, frustrating.  Smiley  He called me one day during the "rest time"....it didn't sound like much resting going on that day. The next day he told me all was fine.  There have been so many storms this week and I've been worried about them being down there close to the river because there were flood warnings issued a couple times. Daniel assures me they are safe and have a weather radio and that I shouldn't worry! Right! Me not worry.....  Thank goodness for his cell phone ---been able to talk to him a lot. It sounds like he's been eating well from what he's been telling me. Next week he will have a little older campers. So, almost a week down and all is well and he's having a blast!

Daniel is going to be fine.  He will take good care of all of those kids and you can bet someone is making sure that Daniel is ok, too.  It is hard not to worry, especially with all that he has been through.  I am just so excited for him to have this opportunity.

He's probably having a blast, though there will always be some issues when kids are away from their regular routines.

Daniel called a couple times today, once was to ask me about some icecream place he loves and forgot the name. Smiley  He's enjoying the good weather down there today. They'd had a bit of rain move through, but it cooled it off some and was pretty when he called me. We're under a heat advisory here today, so I don't know if it will heat up that bad where he is. Thursday there was a boy that went down the water slide and had to get 4 staples in his head. He doesn't even remember hitting it, just came up holding his head and it was bleeding. Daniel handled it well and they got the kid to the hospital to get fixed up. This is a great opportunity for him.

We sure are proud of him. He told me last evening that next summer he might go down there for a couple months. Of course that hits me as both good and bad! Smiley  What matters is that he is happy and making accomplishments and feeling good about himself. We'll see what the next year brings. A week from today he comes home. I know he'll be glad to get home, but am sure it will be a let down though after all the activities and people he's had around him this month.

Daniel has made remarkable progress and each summer seems to find him moving further ahead.  He has traveled without family, he has become a minister at his church, and he is now working at a summer camp.  I am just so thrilled for him and for his family.  He needs to become independent and able to care for himself.  I think he is very close to doing that.

It would be wonderful if Daniel could become independent. You know how I'm not a patient person, but I have learned to be patient about this. As we look back, we can see that things fall into place. It will be 6 years next month since the accident. I ask that we all keep praying for continued improvement and thank GOD for the miracles we witnessed. I believe anything is possible.

In the mean time he is having fun. I talked to him for quite awhile earlier. Last week's campers were gone and the kids for this coming week hadn't arrived yet.
He had free time till they arrived and he was waiting to see what his evening meal would be. Smiley

Can it possibly be six years?  I find it hard to believe that I have been on board that long.  I know it seems that things have moved slowly for Daniel but we can all certainly see progress.  Daniel is a miracle and proof that God still performs miracles in our day and time.
