Kitty Wells has died.
« on: July 16, 2012, 04:42:03 PM »
I just learned on WSM-AM radio that the Queen of Country Music, Kitty Wells, died today at age 92.

Here's a link to an article I found via Twitter:  http://www.newschannel5.com/story/19036545/the-queen-of-country-music-dies-at-age-92

Just got this update from Bill Anderson's website, which includes a beautiful memory of Kitty Wells.  Bill also shared that he learned the news of Kitty's passing from Jimmy and Nina last night.

Marty Stuart had a tribute to Kitty on his show. I watched it tonight. I think I read that it was her last TV appearance. I believe the show was aired in 2010.. I got a lump in my throat watching her.

I just switched my tv programming from Comcast to Verizon Fios.  Now I get RFD which is so much better than GAC on Comcast.  I love RFD and it reminds me of the old TNN with Ralph Emery.  I remember Rose and I used to turn TNN on early in the evening and never turn the channel.  Last night I found RFD and sat for several hours watching it.  I saw the infomercial for Marty Stuart and the Nebraska Fair that Marty is doing for RFD TV and they showed Miss Kitty singing.  I'll miss this great lady.  I saw Hee Haw - with the old shows and I never get tired of the great music and comedy.  I also saw Virginia Dreams - Center Stage with Nelson and Rose Swartz doing the commercials and the show with Lisa Meadows (and Robbie Meadows and Pat Burl)  Also I love when Jimmy does the commercial part "c'mon down and getcha a car"!

I'm glad you get RFD Eddie! Do you watch "Country's family Reunion?"You will see Jimmy on there quite a lot. He doesn't sing every week but he is around. OnThe last weeks show he helped Roy Clark get his guitar strap hooked up. Roy had some red strings that he was trying out and he gave one to JImmy. I don't think Roy was very happy with the strings. The old timers were kidding Jimmy about helping the Statlers put on their guitar straps. That's true in a way. Jimmy was the lone guitar player of the brothers. ;D There is a lot of old timers on the show and some new faces too. Dailey and Vincent are among them. Always a great show! :)

...And don't miss Larry's Country Diner.  I watched it the first time last year to see Jimmy's hour, and I haven't missed a show since.  We are even going to a taping this year. Woo-hoo!  They have had Dailey and Vincent twice - I'm hoping Jimmy will do an hour again sometime in the future.

Doug

Your right Doug! I forgot to mention Larry. I always watch it when I can. Another show that recently started is Joey and Rory. They follow Country's family reunion. There is a lot of program options. You can even watch cattle auctions during the day! ;)

Thanks Riley and Doug - for the info.  I have to start checking out the schedules on RFD.  Great to have quality programming again.  I did watch a show from West Virginia and enjoyed it.  Looking forward to hearing Jimmy tonight on the Grand Ole Opry.

Right you are Riley and Eddie.  I too am looking forward to tonight's Opry.  I haven't seen a Jimmy show in six months!  Wish I could be in Nashville tonight.  Pity is it only a 19 hour drive!

Just curious about fellow Fortune Tellers - I'm asking this a a poll - How long is considered too long between shows?  I'm getting twitchy to see Jimmy again - don't see any shows closer than Maryland on this year's tour calendar - and that is not close to us at all.

So friends, how long is considered too long between Jimmy shows?

Best,

Doug

Doug,

Time between shows?   I'm thinking more than 2 days is too long but that's just me !  ;D

I just saw the Maryland Show added but it's in Ocean City Maryland on Maryland's Eastern Shore in December.
That's about 3 1/2 hours for me.

I completely agree with Eddie, more than TWO days is way TOO long. This past April we went to see Jimmy in New York and then in Pennsylvania. That was two days between shows and that seemed like forever. At least getting to see Jimmy whenever we can is worth it.

I got to watch Country Family Reunion tonight for the first time.  They advertise it as a 6 hour show that they sell CDs for.  Jimmy didn't do any singing on this show but there was quite a few cameos of Jimmy and a few of Dailey and Vincent.

Wait until you see the ones where they all sing--and all together on at least one!

I'm really enjoying RFD TV - didn't know what I was missing.  Just finished watching the Marty Stuart show with Connie Smith.  Also saw another show with Sierra Hull (remember her from the Festival a couple years ago) and the Quebe Sisters who will be appearing at the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival in Salem NJ over Labor Day Weekend.  Marty Stuart will also be there - as will Suzy Bogguss and Dailey and Vincent.  It's 3 days of day long music - got my ticket for the whole three days.  If you're anywhere near Rt 95 between Delaware and NJ - stop by and enjoy a philly cheesesteak or hoagie.
