Mom
« on: January 30, 2012, 06:29:05 PM »
Mom has an appointment tomorrow morning with a surgeon, and she is still kind of nervous. This is a consult to see when she will need to have both of her knees replaced. Mom has been putting off calling a surgeon about this for longer than I can remember, so I made this appointment for her the end of last year. If you could keep her in your prayers to help her through this appointment I would really appreciate it.

Heather, I've had my left knee replaced and it was super easy, super fast, and the best thing I ever did after 40 years of pain. Hope your mom feels more comfortable with the idea soon.

Here is the update on Mom. Sorry I didn't get anything posted sooner, but things have been busy around here lately. The surgeon was extremely nice and caring. He told Mom that both of her knees are bone on bone, and he doesn't see how is able to stand let alone walk. So on June 4th Mom is going in for her left knee to be replaced, and then in late summer or early fall she will have her right knee replaced. Mom could have gone in as early as the beginning of March, but she wouldn't go along with that as she didn't want to feel pressured to recover in enough time to head to New York to see Jimmy in April. The surgeon said that her priorities were absolutely perfect as Jimmy is much more important than a knee replacement  ;D.

Please keep Mom in your prayers. She had her five year breast cancer follow up appointment today. From that appointment and the mammograms that were done today she has to go in for more tests this afternoon. Depending on the results of todays tests it may put her knee replacement surgery in jeopardy. Mom could really use all the prayers and good thoughts possible. Thank you all.

Oh, Heather, what can I say?  Your mother is certainly in our prayers as are you and your dad.  Make sure they know that they are being lifted up by so many of us.  We love all of you.

Hi, Sorry I haven't been on, but things have been totally crazy around here this week.

Here is more details about what is going on with Mom:

Mom had her five breast cancer check this past Tuesday. When she had her mammogram they found a spot that wasn't there last year. Then during her appointment and exam her doctor felt another spot that she didn't feel last year. Mom had an ultra sound that afternoon, and the doctor was hoping to get a definitive answer. Unfortunately, the radiologist couldn't give a definite answer from the ultra sound, either. Tomorrow, Monday, morning Mom is going in for a biopsy on both spots in Plymouth. Then in the afternoon she has preop for her knee replacement surgery in Taunton. Depending on the outcome of the biopsy Mom's knee replacement surgery on June 4th maybe in jeopardy. Thursday morning Mom has an appointment with the surgeon who is doing her knee replacement to make all the final arrangements for the surgery. Unfortunately, Mom won't get the results of the biopsy until Thursday afternoon. Both her breast cancer doctor and the radiogist said it is extremely likely that the two spots are just scar tissue as they are very close to the scar. We are hoping that is all that it is, but Mom is still worried and concerned about both the results of the biopsy and not knowing whether her knee replacement surgery will go on as scheduled until her appointment Thursday afternoon when she gets the results.

Thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, and kind words. All I know for sure is this is going to be one extremely long week with doctor appointments everyday through Thursday.
