3 friends with cancer & a sick cat
Paula in Nashville:
I just learned today that one of my very closest friends has been diagnosed with cancer, and I feel like I'm still in shock! Also, in recent months, I've learned via Facebook that two friends I knew in high school are fighting cancer, and one of them is now under hospice care. I just learned last week how serious her situation was.
On top of that, my cat, who is my "baby" since I don't have any human kids, has been fighting a urinary tract infection for over a week. I took her to the vet last week, and the vet gave her a shot and sent me home with an antibiotic that I've been pouring down her for the past week. She seems better in certain ways (eating better), but I can tell she's definitely not well yet (going to the litter box very often but not doing much - trying not to be too graphic! LOL!), so I took her back to the vet today and am leaving her there overnight. I've had a urinary tract infection myself, and know what it feels like, but I've also been a little worried that there might be something else wrong. In light of my friend's diagnosis today, I'm even more concerned, imagining all kinds of horrible things. I'm very, very attached to this cat, I should add.
My three friends with cancer are Becki (friend from school), Heather (friend from school who is now under hospice care), and Brandy (close friend), and my cat's name is Mitzi. Please keep all of them in prayer. Thanks!

Prayers coming from Maine!
Paula in Nashville:
Thank you! I felt kind of silly asking for prayers for a cat, but she is my baby and I'm very attached to her! I'm also more concerned than I can say about all three friends who are fighting cancer. Heather hasn't updated her Caring Bridge page in awhile, so I'm afraid things are really bad. Becki is very positive and "keeping on keeping on." I think Brandy's still in shock, as are those of us who know her.

Paula, It is not silly at all to ask for prayer for your cat. Please keep us informed on how she is doing. I know how much she means to you.
So sorry about your friends and will have them in my prayers. I, too, have been in shock over a very serious surgery (for cancer) coming up within my own family. Life is fragile and all of these things make us relaize how illness can strike at any time.
Paula in Nashville:
Thanks, Patsy. Hopefully I will get to bring Mitzi home from the vet tomorrow, also hopefully with a little more medicine to get us through the weekend. I'm SO attached to her!
These friends of mine are (we like to think) young - 46, 47, and 50! (I'm also 47.) It's just hard to have to face your own mortality when you want to believe you have at least another 20-30 years to go! Also, I'm concerned because I'm not sure all of them really know the Lord, and I wonder if there's more I could have or should have done to be a better Christian witness. My friend Heather, who is under hospice care, knows Jesus Christ intimately and is okay with her fate, though she hates to leave her family (husband and two sons in their 20's) to deal with the aftermath. I'm not the least bit concerned about her and know I will see her in Heaven someday. The other two.... I'm not entirely sure. For now, all I can do is pray for them, though.
