Marshall Grant
« on: August 07, 2011, 12:19:07 PM »
Our friend, Marshall Grant, passed away this morning. He had a stroke several days ago. He was in Jonesboro, AR for the Johnny Cash Music Festival. Those of you who do not remember Marshall he was one of the Tennessee Two from the beginning until 1980. The then managed the Statler Brothers until their retirement in 2002. He then helped Jimmy in the first few years of his solo career.

This is so sad--he was such a talented man who gave so much joy and help to many, many people through his music and his other skills.  Prayers for everyone who loves and cared for him.

My prayers go out to Marshall's family and friends.  Ro and I were privileged to see (many years ago) the Johnny Cash Concert Show in Philly with the Tennessee Two, Carter Family, Carl Perkins, and the Statlers(with Lew DeWitt).

This is truly the end of an era in so many ways.  Prayers go out to his family and friends.

Don has posted a very nice tribute on his blog about Mr. Grant.

RIP

I just read Don's blog.  It brought tears to my eyes.  What a tribute to their long time friend and Manager from an eloquent speaker and writer.

My thoughts and prayers are with Marshall's family and with the Statler Bros. and especially with Jimmy.  I could see the love and admiration between Jimmy and Marshall and had once or twice mentioned it on this site.

Marshall Grant will be missed by those who depended on him for guidance and leadership, but mostly for his friendship.  Rest in peace, Marshall.

Don's tribute is indeed a lovely, heartfelt one. Perhaps he will add to it later as he suggests he might. I am absolutely sure we would all benefit from what he might say.  The beginning of the end of an era, and one we all are part of in some ways--what a thought...

Sorry to hear about Marshall's passing. I know Jimmy and the Statlers will really miss him.  Jimmy named one of his sons..  Grant, after him.  I guess that shows how much Jimmy admired him.
