Ed's Retirement Party
« on: July 31, 2008, 02:42:21 PM »
We just got home.  They gave Ed a retirement party after 45 years with his company.  They put us up in a suite at the Hotel Sierra near his office and the party was held at the Cafe Cucina nearby.  Most of his co-workers were able to make it except for some in Florida, Missouri and California.  I was so pleased when I learned four co-workers from Rhode Island came down to NJ at their own expense to be there.  The food was delicious and I even managed to put down a few glasses of wine to celebrate the occasion. There were over 30 people there.  His boss spoke about Ed's career and said how Ed trained him and that he considered Ed to be his mentor.  They were so kind to me asking about how I was feeling after my surgery.  They had a big Italian Cream Cake which was so good.  I even brought a few slices home. When we got back to the room, Ed opened a card they had given to him during the retirement presentation.  I nearly passed out when inside there was an American Express Gift card for $700.  These are the same people who sent me a $200 gift card when I came home from the hospital because they didn't want me to worry about cooking.  So now he's out of work for the first time in his life.  Can anyone spell DOOR GREETER AT WALMART?

Oh Rose how often I thought of that as being Jim's next  career  ;D.

Congratulations to Ed as he starts down a new road of his life.  And what a wonderful send-off he received!  Obviously he is a very popular person  :).

Congratulations Eddie! ;) You will find there is plenty to do after retirement. The difference is that you can pick and choose what keeps you busy. :)Maggie and I make decisions on the spur of the moment many times about going somewhere and doing something different.Enjoy yourself! You worked hard for it! ;)

Congratulations, Eddie and Rose!   Clyde is still working after retirement but he is doing only things he really enjoys and he has quite a bit of freedom with his schedule.  Yes, he is at Wal-Mart but he works in the photo lab which he loves.  If he didn't, he wouldn't be there.  The things he does for school are the parts he liked before.  He doesn't miss the meetings, and all the other things about the job that were beginning to get to him.  If hanging around the house 24/7 works for you, Eddie, oh, and you too Rose, then that is what you should do, but if you want to find a little job, make sure it is something you can have fun with and that will let you go away to see Jimmy whenever you want to.   Clyde has no trouble getting time off for Festival or to go to FL for a couple of months in the winter.

It sure sounds like Ed worked with a wonderful group of people who care about each other.  (So why retire?  We did just because most of them weren't and we couldn't stand it any more!)

Seriously, I wish you both wonderful days filled with joy and adventure.  I know that in our case the days seem to go faster than they did while we were working--or we are just slower than we were.  But what is great is that you can pretty much plan your own schedule, sleep in if you want, and you don't have to go anywhere when the weather is bad if you don't want to.

Joy to you both at this exciting time.

Congratulations Eddie.  You deserve a happy retirement and it seems like you are off to a great start.  Now you and Rose can live you life's dreams, not that you haven't been doing that.

Congratulations!  Now get out and do things together that you have dreamed of doing.  Just be careful and budget wisely.
