Birdie Stew
« on: June 02, 2008, 10:34:07 PM »
We have some kind of critter outside our bedroom window that chirps all night.  It starts when the sun goes down and stops when the sun comes up.

I thought when the oak was removed, that would take care of the problem.  It hasn't.  We have looked and looked for this darned thing and can't find it.  We have trampled the Hawiian White Ginger to death, trying to find, either a bird or a flying squirrel and can't even get anything to run from the bushes.

If the dogs hear it, they start going crazy and if I'm asleep, I have to peel myself from the ceiling once they start.  Emma will bay and howl, the others will bark and whine.

Does anyone know what this could be?  If its a bird, I bet I could whip up a birdie stew.

I know what those darned owls sound like, they carry on something awful and small pets and children are not safe after dark.

If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.

:-\ Maybe tape the critter while it is sounding off.  Perhaps someone down there will recognize it and offer suggestions on how to get rid of it.   :-\
Consider the turtle. It never gets anywhere unless it sticks its neck out.

I can't identify the birds here by their sounds.  Well, I do know the mourning dove when I hear it!  So I guess I have no idea what you are hearing.  Isn't it interesting though?  I am interested anyway.  You probably aren't any more.

We had a cricket in our house onetime and we could not find it. It seemed to chirp all night, shortly after we went to bed. :o
After a couple of days we found it and returned it to the great outdooors. ::)

That's good, Riley.  It is supposed to be bad luck to kill a cricket indoors.  ;D

Ahh Riley you reminded me of a fond memory I have of a cricket singing us to sleep (not) at night.  It sounded like it was coming from the basement.  We searched for it, moved everything movable.  Couldn't find it so we gave up searching & Jim sprayed every nook and cranny down there, almost did us in.  Finally the next day we figured it out - it was OUTSIDE!

Good luck on your search Billie.

It would be especially bad luck for the Cricket! ;D We took it way out in our back yard and turned it loose. ;) Never had another problem. :) I think it must have been grateful to get away! ::)

The little monster is out there singing his/her little heart out.  We can't find a frog and I don't know if the night lizards make a noise or not.

I'm sure the little cricket stayed right where you dropped it off, Riley!! ::)

We must have one giant size bullfrog around our house, somewhere.  The other night (while sitting right here at the computer) that thing croaked and I nearly jumped out of my skin.  I have heard it once near the back of our house, too. Needless to say, it does not take much at all to scare me!

I understand the 17 year cicadas are active in some parts of the country right now.  Could it be a chorus?  Hey, backup singers!

Billie, I don't think that lizards make noise.  They just scare the daylights out of you by looking at them!!

Why don't you make Mike get up and go out with a flashlight to solve this mystery?  I am really curious now, as to what it is.

At least your critter is making noise.  We found a shed snake skin about three feet long under our carport next to the house's foundation yesterday.  I don't like having it there and thinking about where the original owner might be.  I don't know what kind of snake it is from, and I sure don't want to walk the dogs out that door after dark.  When I hear a noise it will be too late!

Mike and his nephew found a 10 snake skin on our land.  They said it was a harmless snake.  I wouldn't know because I don't want to get close enough to introduce myself to one.

Mike just came in from mowing the backyard and the little creature is chirping his little heart out.  I have asked at work and there is one other person that has a chirper.  We are leaning to the night lizards.  If you get to see one during daylight, they are white and very transparent.  Eyes are very black.  It looks like you can see their insides.
