« on: November 01, 2007, 09:56:44 PM »
as time goes on and people move on i realize how fortunate... :o i was to watch the statler brothers show. a neighbor recently gave us her vcr and i was able to watch the videos of the shows we recorded. tears flooded my eyes as i watched old friends sing and perform. 4 weeks and i cant watch it enough. i know im on borrowed time vcr or tape and at some time i will never get to watch these treasures again. nina is there any tv show recordings available or even just the gospell portions. it truly would be a tragedy to see these recordings be destroyed. could harold phil don or jimmy help? what does it take to make millions smile? 8) just 1 of jimmys 3 california fans

I wish I could help out. There is nothing that Jimmy can do personally about getting the show available to purchase. I do know that there is a lot involved, who owns the shows, the production company, even down to paying everyone their royalties again. I do hope that someday they will be available but who knows. As VCRs are getting more and more extinct, I am taking on the task of transferring our home movies on to DVDs. Some of the tapes are already destroyed and there is no way I can get those back.

Have they ever thought about just issuing the parts with the Statlers?  That would save some legal work, I should think.  I usually fast forward through most of the rest anyway.

I havve loads of tapes, but i don't have the hardware to transfer them yet.  Anybody have any (reasonably priced?) suggestions?

Not only are royalties involved, each person that played an instrument would have to be paid a rate. It's very complicated. I'm sure if there is a way, it will be done one of these days.

We plan to purchase the equipment to transfer our tapes to DVD's very soon.  It will take some time to do but will be worth it.  I have several VCR's here that eat my tapes so I no longer dare to use them.  I know that the machines to do this are out there and aren't too expensive.  They become less so all the time as newer and newer stuff is developed.

this brings more tears to me as i see corporate greed holding back a truly american treasure. we get cmt out here is there no place for variety shows? all of us should covert these treasure and share if they wont allow us to buy them. of course the jimmy board can not be apart of this, just friends with temporary email addys! :'(

I wish some TV channel would show the reruns(CMT comes to mind).  The show was very entertaining.  The music was great and the comedy always made roll over with laughter.

I'm sure when they were taping the shows, they had no idea that there was a possibility of them selling it. That was not the norm back then. Today it is probably negotiated in contracts ahead of time so that everyone doesn't need to be tracked down 10 years afterward. Greed is not the word I would use. Royalties are how a songwriter makes a living. With all the piracy going on with the computer world, CD sales are down far from what they used to be and it's harder to make a living that way. Each time there is a rerun of your favorite show, someone is getting paid. The laws that are established are to insure that someone is not making all of the profit off of someone else's talent.

For the record, I mentioned the DVD/VHS Recorder for the purpose of converting your VHS only!!  Not to sell DVD's of the shows!

Nina, I think you were clear and to the point.  Thank you.  It was very well said.  I think we all want things to be the way we want them not necessarily the way they have to be.  You are right.  We need to remember that when those shows were taped they were never intended for distribution in any other way.  Who knew we could do that!   Again, thank you for making things clear.  Pam

No problem,  I just wanted to make sure no one would get the wrong impression!  You know me, I tend to be too paranoid!  :)
I agree the piracy is ridiculous! Wonder how they'd feel if the CD's were their work?
