Nancy, Sonny would want you to have someone to love just as much as you did him.  He knows how sad you have been and wants you to be happy, both that he is out of pain and that you have someone to care about.

I don't know about the mix you are mentioning, but my mother had a schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle) she got from a shelter, and it was about the sweetest, smartest dog you ever met.  And, because of it being part poodle, it did not shed!

As someone said, just open your arms and heart, and you will have honored Sonny's memory by continuing to share your boundless love.

Nancy, try not to look at it like you are replacing Sonny but that you are giving a good home to another needy animal.  This little dog needs someone to love and care for him and you are just the right person to do that.

Nancy I thought it would be great if you could get a dog soon & am so happy the vet had you in mind.  That is so nice.  No way are you replacing Sonny and don't you dare feel guilty about loving another pet.  A person does not take their love from one pet/person and give it to another.  Love just keeps expanding and when you think it can't get any greater it will.

Let us know how things turn out.

The Assistant  has kept me posted all day and  it has been a busy one! So she didn't even get a lunch break!  They are supposed to be here in 20 minutes!
I'm so crazy!!  I'm nervous cause she said he was a dominate male so I'm afraid he'll try to bite me!  This should be interesting!  Stay tuned!!   :)

If you love this furbaby half as much as you loved Sonny, everything will be O.K.  I'm sure the love will grow as time goes on.  Sonny knows that you need a new companion.

OK, he's been here for 3 hours and I'm exhausted!!  He's a hyper little dude!!  But cute as a button!   This is the longest legged dog! I think I'll change his name to Wilt the Stilt!   His  Daddy was a standard Poodle therefore he obviously is taking after his Papa!!  I've already learned you DO NOT leave anything on the edge of the counter because he can stand on his hind legs and get it!!
Soooo now some of you can say, "I told you so"!   :)    He's pretty cute!!   His story is different though at first I didn't have all the details  he does have papers, he's show quality, and I'm honored to have him!!  Because he is not a stray he belonged to a soldier and his wife who had to go to Iraq and therefore had to give him up!!  This soldier is a hulk of a man and he was in tears because he had to let him go!!  I can see why!!
The Vet Assistant who brought him to me has an email address for the soldier and she's going to let him know where the dog is and how he's helping mend a broken heart!!  Wow, wait 5 minutes and your life will change!   Thanks for lettin me vent!!   :)

Sounds like "Wilt the Stilt"  will certainly make a huge change in your life.  How nice that you will be able to contact his original "parents" and keep them posted on his activities.  It looks like you will gain a couple more new friends out of this.

nancy, you're not replacing sonny. you're opening your home and heart to a soul who was almost out of time. you're saving the life of a companion to a couple of soldiers defending freedom in iraq. they will probably be thrilled to know their bundle of joy found a loving home; his life will be spared.

Nancy, it seems like this was a match made in heaven.  You so badly needed Wilt, and this loving companion was just about out of time.  I am sure his "parents" will be delighted to hear of his new home.

Nancy I am so happy and excited for you!  And you're a fast learner - less than 3 hrs & you already know not to leave things on the edge of a counter  ;).  I think it's great that you know his history and that the soldier will rest assured that his dog will be well looked after and loved.

Sounds like the sweetie bounded right into your heart.  I'm sure you'll have more stories (and pictures) to share about his antics very soon.

Can we say.....READERS DIGEST story???  We're proud of you, Nancy.  You have a big heart.  I hope you get to contact the soldiers and let them know how the dog is doing.

I am so glad you opened your heart to this loving soul.  You can never replace Sonny, and we all know that you arent trying to.  I only wish all animals can be loved as much as you and the rest of us love ours.

He will be eternally grateful to you for the rest of his life.  Please post pictures soon!
