I'm here from sunny, cloudy, cold, hot, hail, rain Louisiana.  It is time for me to try to get Pandora to bed.  She is up to 75 pounds and still a puppy and wants me to carry her.  I managed to carry her until she turned 50 pounds, the little stinker.

General Fan Discussion Forum / Re: Looking for Old Hearing Aids
« on: February 24, 2013, 06:19:52 PM »
Mom has been in need of a hearing aid for a few years now. She is on the waiting list with the local Lions Club. Unfortunately, the need far exceeds the supply. She has been on the list for almost a year and a half. The Hearing Aid Place in  works with the Lions Club. Basically, they clean, refurbish, and attach the molding of the recipient's ear. They told us if we could get one from somewhere else, they would do the same thing. We are therefore asking that anyone who has an old hearing aid they may be willing to part with to contact me. (mom doesn't get on much anymore due to computer issues). If we can't use what you send, we will mail it back to you, or donate it so someone else may benefit from your generosity. Whatever you prefer. A new aid costs $3000; this is far more than we can afford. We would certainly appreciate any help our Fortuneteller family can provide. We can't thank you enough.

My sister doesn't have them.  Shoot I thought she might.

Thanks so much for the advice.  I have let banks know that we were going to use card out of the country and where they would be used.  After one purchase the card is cut off.  That gets to me.  I have a couple of cards and will call both before we leave.  One I haven't used on cruises before so maybe they will be better.

I just sent an email to my sister to see if she has Mom's hearing aids.  I let you know when I hear back.

Riley, it might work.  My debit card is usually cancelled after one purchase even if I go to the bank and tell them I will be using it in a foreign country and tell them all my stops.  I guess I need to bite the bullet and let them call me on my cell even though it will be a huge charge when I get home.

Thanks.

We heard the same news about Greece getting away from the Euro.  We are waiting until the last minute, which is a month, before the trip before we exchange the money.  You can also do an exchange on the ship but the cost is high.

You guys are such a big help.  Thanks.

Search online and ask around to see if someone else has gone on the trip and what advice  they would have.  Trip Advisor is a great source of information.

Sarah, we even thought about using the restrooms.  You get two pieces of bathroom tissue and you have to tip to get that.  I have picked up a couple of things that you can put in your pocket for that.  Every country is on the Euro except Croatia and they are due to go on it next year so they may be taking it now. We will wait until closer to time and check again.  If they don't take the Euro we will try to get some money in the Kuna, their currency.

Sarah we are leaving in August and will be gone about 10 days.  A few those days won't be on a cruise but on land.  We booked it ourselves.  Sometimes it takes us a while to get things together.  We want to make sure that the hotels have a bath in each room and not shared in the hall someplace.  Going to take a copy of what Eddie posted.  That will help a lot.

Pam, wish you guys were going with us.  We know how to leave a door open so everyone can walk in and out.

Sue got us back to your house in Fl, just fine.  Granted we didn't leave the complex but I have faith she can do it.

I do have some serious medication to take with me.  Chewing gum and Dramamine.

My sister is making que cards with simple phrases.  I told her I only want mine to say are we there yet?  We will be in Venice one day and one night then on to the cruise ship.  No, not Carnival.

We are going to a place where my sister wants to stop and have a glass of wine.  That's fine by me as long as I can see and do a couple of things.  Got to get some wear on the new sneakers.

Last night I was printing out our hotel reservations in Venice and Athens.  Then printing out our taxi reservation.

I noticed that the hotel in Athens has Valet Parking which is great and our room will be overlooking the Acropolis.

I then went to the hotel in Venice and was hoping that there wasn't Valet Parking and there isn't.  You have to use a water Taxi to get there.  Then I started to get hysterical with laughter.  Most of you know my sister and with the two of us along with Pam, Sue, and Carolyn don't seem to have a functioning brain when together.  There will only be Mike, my sister, her husband and me on the cruise.  I pictured us getting to the Water Taxi waiting area, given the pole to push the Gondola and a map.  The map is in Italian and the four of us can't speak or read Italian.  After an hour of going round and round we find the hotel and try to park the Gondola.  We saw our names on the slot way away from the other Water Taxis with our names in English and telling us they had been forwarned about our ability to navigate.
